As part of 做厙TVs Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month celebrations, we are highlighting members of our school community. Take a moment to meet the Jarboe family: Ericka, Jeff, Eleiana (5th grade), and Jaxon (3rd grade). This is their first year at 做厙TV, and they are loving it!
What inspired you to join 做厙TV? / 聶Qu矇 te inspir籀 a venir a 做厙TV?
As we were deciding whether to accept the opportunity to enroll our kids at 做厙TV, it was very important for our family to find a school that is organized and communicates well with the families, has teachers that feel happy and supported by the administration, and has a solid curriculum where our children can be challenged academically and continue their bilingual Spanish education. We had heard great things about 做厙TV from friends, and we thought they would meet all of these needs. 做厙TV has met these needs, and we are very happy with our decision.
Mientras decid穩a si aceptar la oportunidad de inscribir a nuestros hijos en 做厙TV, era muy importante para nuestra familia encontrar una escuela organizada y que se comunicara bien con las familias, que tuviera maestros que se sintieran felices y apoyados por la administraci籀n, y tiene un curr穩culo s籀lido donde nuestros ni簽os pueden ser desafiados acad矇micamente y continuar su educaci籀n biling羹e en espa簽ol. Hab穩amos escuchado grandes cosas sobre 做厙TV de amigos, y pensamos que cubrir穩an todas estas necesidades. 做厙TV ha satisfecho estas necesidades y estamos muy contentos con nuestra decisi籀n.
What is the best part about 做厙TV? / 聶Cu獺l es la mejor parte de 做厙TV?
There are many things that our family loves about 做厙TV, but the best part is the staff. 泭My kids were new at the school this year, but they were welcomed with open arms. All the teachers have been great, not only by meeting all of the standard expectations, but also by finding alternative academic activities and opportunities (including some that are organized external to the school) for the students to participate in. 泭This has been a pleasant surprise that we did not experience at previous schools. 泭Since joining 做厙TV, our childrens love for learning has grown even more and they both have thrived academically. We owe it all to the wonderful staff, who despite the challenges brought about by Covid, have continued to work hard to make learning fun and challenging.
Hay muchas cosas que a nuestra familia le encantan de 做厙TV, pero la mejor parte es el personal. Mis hijos eran nuevos en la escuela este a簽o, pero fueron recibidos con los brazos abiertos. Todos los maestros han sido excelentes, no solo al cumplir con todas las expectativas est獺ndar, sino tambi矇n al encontrar actividades y oportunidades acad矇micas alternativas (incluidas algunas que se organizan fuera de la escuela) para que los estudiantes participen. Esta ha sido una sorpresa agradable. que no experimentamos en escuelas anteriores. Desde que se unieron a 做厙TV, el amor de nuestros hijos por el aprendizaje ha crecido a繳n m獺s y ambos han prosperado acad矇micamente. Can you tell us what a typical day in your home looks like? / 聶Puede decirnos c籀mo es un d穩a t穩pico en su casa?
A typical day in the Jarboe household is busy with activities. I take the kids to school in the morning and then head straight to the office or back to the house on the days I work from home. My husband works from home full time and he handles the school pick up duty in the afternoon. When the kids get home from school, depending on the day, they either have their Zoom music lessons (piano for Eleiana and ukulele for Jaxon), Zoom with their Math and Spanish tutor, or off to sports practice (softball, baseball, soccer).
Un d穩a t穩pico en el hogar Jarboe est獺 lleno de actividades. Llevo a los ni簽os a la escuela por la ma簽ana y luego me dirijo directamente a la oficina o vuelvo a casa los d穩as que trabajo desde casa. Mi esposo trabaja desde casa a tiempo completo y se encarga de recogerlos 泭de la escuela por la tarde. Cuando los ni簽os llegan a casa de la escuela, dependiendo del d穩a, tienen sus lecciones de m繳sica Zoom (piano para Eleiana y ukelele para Jaxon), Zoom con su tutor de matem獺ticas y espa簽ol, o practican deportes (s籀ftbol, b矇isbol, f繳tbol) .
What is one aspect of your culture that is incredibly important to you?/ 聶Cu獺l es un aspecto de su cultura que es incre穩blemente importante para usted?
I am Filipino and it is very important to me that my children grow up with strong Filipino cultural values. Filipino culture is very family-oriented. 泭The four of us stick close together and stay close to our extended families as well. 泭We often remind our kids that family always comes first. 泭Respect for elders is another aspect of the Filipino culture that is important to us and we try to instill in our kids.
Soy filipino y es muy importante para m穩 que mis hijos crezcan con fuertes valores culturales filipinos. La cultura filipina est獺 muy orientada a la familia. Los cuatro nos mantenemos unidos y nos mantenemos cerca de nuestras familias extensas tambi矇n. A menudo les recordamos a nuestros hijos que la familia siempre es lo primero. El respeto por los mayores es otro aspecto de la cultura filipina que es importante para nosotros y tratamos de inculcar a nuestros hijos.

It has been a wonderful experience being part of the 做厙TV community and we hope to get to know more families. 泭We have switched schools a couple of times and we feel like we finally got it right this time!
