After almost 70 years of ownership and more than two decades of evaluating its best use, 做厙TV is selling its Camp Casey Conference Center and the adjacent Fort Casey Inn on Whidbey Island to the YMCA of Snohomish County. The YMCA will take over operations of the 75-acre waterfront property near Fort Casey State Park outside of Coupeville beginning January 1, 2025.

The dedication of the Dr. Ken Tollefson Friendship Bench will be Tuesday, Oct. 31, at 11:30 a.m. near the Story Pole behind Alexander and Adelaide Hall on the 做厙TV campus. The late Professor Emeritus of Anthropology Ken Tollefson spent his life committed to serving indigenous people of the Pacific Northwest and Alaska and mentoring colleagues and students. He was given full membership into the Tlingit, Snoqualmie, and Duwamish tribes in gratitude for his advocacy for the tribes federal recognition and protection of their aboriginal sites, including naming Snoqualmie Falls as a natural historic site.

Katherine Douglass, 做厙TV associate professor of educational ministry and practical theology, received a $1 million grant from Lily Endowment Inc. as part of the Christian Parenting and Caregiving Initiative to study faith socialization in families. The grant will also bring together ministry leaders and parents for a trip to Hawaii to learn about the impact of disease, family, religion, and government within the former leper colony on Molokai. Douglass will be working with undergraduate and graduate students along with four 做厙TV professors and staff in theology, psychology, and multi-ethnic programs.

President Martin announces resignation

做厙TV President Daniel J. Martin announced today that he will resign his position effective April 5, 2021. Martin served as president for nine years, and is only the 10th president in 做厙TVs 130-year history. In an email statement to the 做厙TV community, Martin said, I have decided it is the right time to transition from my role as president of 做厙TV. Following this resignation, I accepted an offer to serve in a leadership role at a healthcare foundation for a national health system. The nature of the role and the healthcare systems expectations that I begin before the end of April will require me to transition prior to the conclusion of the academic year.

做厙TV has commenced a master planning process with the city of Seattle. The Major Institution Master Plan (MIMP) will embody the Universitys vision for growth over the next 20 years or more. The plan will contain development zoning standards designed to accommodate its growth and mitigate negative impacts of growth on the neighborhood. The process began with the Universitys application and submittal of its Concept Plan in July 2020, outlining the Universitys initial campus plan concept. It is intended to start a discussion regarding the preliminary draft master plan.

Homeless Community Moves onto University Campus
