May 19: President's post-BOT Town Hall

President Porterfield will hold a post-BOT Town Hall on Tuesday, May 19, 2:30–3:30 p.m. in Upper Gwinn. She will give an update on the May Board of Trustees meeting. The presentation will be recorded and a link to the recording will be shared.

May 12: Chapel and Community Lunch

The next chapel is Tuesday, May 12, 11:10 a.m. in First Free Methodist Church with Lo Alaman, author, poet, speaker, and featured guest at the annual Walls Lecture. The theme for the quarter is "Following: Exploring what it means to follow Jesus." All faculty and staff are invited to join a community lunch each week after Chapel in the SUB Fireside Room. Bring your lunch and share fellowship with others across campus.

May 16: Honors Research Symposium

The °µÍøTV community is invited to the 6th annual Honors Symposium, Saturday, May 16, 10 a.m.–3 p.m. in Otto Miller Hall. Senior Honors majors will present and discuss their capstone projects in interdisciplinary panels in a morning session (10:30 a.m.–12 p.m.) and afternoon session (1:30–3 p.m.) with lunch served in between. This is a wonderful opportunity to support our students and all of the hard work that they have done over the last few years. Come be part of the Christian liberal arts conversation as we celebrate our Honors seniors and their magnificent achievements!

May 21: Celebration of Service

Celebrate your colleagues and express your appreciation for their dedicated years of service at the annual Celebration of Service on Thursday, May 21, 11:10 a.m. in Upper Gwinn. Faculty award recipients, years of service awards, and professor and staff members of the year will be announced. There will be a community reception immediately following the event. All offices are closed during the celebration so faculty and staff can attend.

2026-27 academic software requests

A message from Information Technology: Please submit all 2026-27 academic software requests to IT by June 1. This includes any piece of software that you need installed on podiums, lab, library computers or that you require IT to distribute. You can find the link to the request form and request spreadsheet . Using either form is fine.

Because of the new budget and purchasing processes, each department is responsible for negotiating licenses with vendors and directly paying for software. IT is happy to consult, so please let us know if you have any questions or need us to be in the loop in any part of the process. Please if you have any questions.




Percussion Ensemble 2026
May 19: Percussion Ensemble Concert

The Percussion Ensemble and soloists will present their Spring Concert on Tuesday, May 19, at 7:30 p.m. in the E.E.Bach Theater in McKinley Hall. Works by Matthias Schmitt, David Jarvis, Claude Debussy, David Gillingham, William Kraft, J.S.Bach, Lynn Glassock, and Ed Argenziano will be presented. Also featured will be student percussion soloists Skye Frazier, James Loffink, Dylan Berlier, and Olivia Callen. Admission is free and open to the public.

Walls Lecture: "A Spark of Grace: Kindling from the Wesleyan Heritage for Renewal Today"

Please join Seattle Pacific Seminary for the annual Paul T. Walls Lecture on Tuesday, May 12, 7 p.m., in Upper Gwinn Commons. The speakers will be Walls Professor of Wesleyan Studies Doug Strong, Associate Professor of Worship and Historical Theology Matthew Sigler, and artist, speaker, minister, and poet Lo Alaman. Together, they will consider if an awakening similar to the early Wesleyan movement is happening among Gen Z.

The Faculty/Staff Bulletin is published every Monday during the academic year. The next deadline is Thursday, May 14, and the next Bulletin will be published on Monday, May 18.

If you have information or event news, send it as soon as possible with an image or graphic to Bulletin editor Tracy Norlen at fsb-editor@spu.edu. Submissions may be edited for clarity and will be published for two consecutive issues; they can be resubmitted for an additional two weeks.

Mohammad Qadam Shah, assistant professor of law and politics, and students in his POL 4000 Public Policy & Administration class recently met with Federal Way Mayor Jim Ferrell. The mayor shared his academic and professional journey with students and explained how local government and intergovernmental relations work. The students asked about specific local and national political and policy related matters.
